Investigations & Injury Management
Learning from Incidents & Supporting Injured Workers
Despite the best of intentions, all workplaces are prone to incidents and worker injuries.
When incidents and injuries do occur, the quality of a post-incident investigation, and the manner in which you support an injured worker will determine the human cost and operational disruption.
Incident Investigation and Reporting
Workplace incidents result in a range of unwanted outcomes, including injured workers, lost productivity, brand damage, regulator attention, and workers’ compensation costs. Further, it has been said that “Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it”, and the same is to be said for organisations that fail to learn from their experiences.
A skilled incident investigator will support you to identify contributing factors and root causes to an incident, develop and implement risk mitigation practices, guide procedural updates, and share lessons learned across your business. Using a combination of site inspections, interviews, and a structured investigation methodology (such as ICAM), your people will feel at ease, and bring hidden risks to the light of day so that these can be avoided in future.
Injury Management
Work-related injuries and illnesses impose costs on employers, workers and the community. These result in a range of direct and indirect impacts:
- Injured workers will often suffer a loss in current and future earnings, and feel disconnected from the workplace while recovering from their injuries.
- Injured workers can also suffer major physical and emotional pain that can go on for months or even years. And in some cases, the effects of the injury can be permanent.
- Business owners can experience increased workers’ compensation premiums, lost productivity in the workplace, and damage to employee morale.
The ultimate goal is for injured workers to return to unrestricted pre-injury duties. Achieving this doesn’t happen by accident, and involves an experienced Return to Work Coordinator who will guide you through the injury management process.
DBell Consulting can assist you through the workers compensation process, and work with you and your employees to ensure that return to work programs are developed in a way that supports injured workers through all stages of their recovery and rehabilitation.
